Notes

Note
Murray, p. 202: Berengaria was Richard's choice of bride. He was a friend of her brother Prince Sancho. He had met Princess Berengaria at a tournament. It was love at first sight; that is what makes their story so pitiful.

"For Richard was a homosexual. His interest in Berengaria was mild. He knew it was his duty to marry...." Berengaria never saw England and hardly ever saw Richard.

Plaidy, "The Revolt of the Eaglets," p. 216: "...Richard watched the lovely young girl at his side. She was a child in truth but her intelligence astonished him and later when she sang he was enchanted by her and found it difficult to withdraw his gaze from her."
