Robert was a tavern keeper who came to New England with John Winthrop on the Winthrop Fleet in June 1630 and settled in Rehoboth, MA. He took the oath of Freeman 18 May 1631. The first record of Robert in America is at Weymouth, MA where his name appeared on a list of persons who desired to be freemen on 19 Oct 1630. His name appeared in court records of the Quarterly Court in Boston, in 1638 and 1640. In Weymouth his name appears in land transactions between October 1642 and May 1644.

Appraisers Stephen Paine, Thomas Cooper, Peter Hunt. a-made freeman in Weymouth MA in 18 may 1631; not there in 1643; nothing about him from 1631 to 1638 when on list of passengers to Providence from Eng 6 apr1638; ?may have gone home for a wife. I found a Robert Abell christening in Kelvendon Hatch of dau Mary in 1637. ?Is this him?
